The Crystal Caves

Nature is offering an extraordinary opportunity for us to admire, get to know and protect an exceptional place, a unique wonder of our planet not only for its great beauty but for its geological and scientific value: The Naica crystal caves, located in the state of Chihuahua to the north of México, at the Industrias Peñoles mine.

In them we can find the biggest selenita crystals (the purest gypsum) in the world, reaching lengths of up to 14 meters. Their transparency and shine, in enormous and unique figures move and captivate. It´s difficult to imagine such an important geographic discovery in the latest years, only compared with the Nile river fountains.

This exceptional place leave us with many scientific and philosophical questions: how and why did they acquire their unique shape and appear in this particular place? How can we protect and preserve them accordingly to their natural environment beneath the water? How can we share a place that is inaccessible for security reasons? What reflections can we make from them as an example of the maximum order facing the general matter´s tendency to disorder and expansion? What can we learn from this place where heaven and hell can be perceived at the same time? Can we explore de cave even it´s dangerous conditions?

Now, due to the interest and effort of several companies and institutions, we can begin to answer this and other questions through the Naica Crystal Project.
